1.1 JET Briefing Programme 2014

On the 10th of October, guests gathered in JCC for a JET programme briefing by former JET participants and members of JETAA. The briefing session churned out a great number of interested participants and prospective JET programme applicants.

The programme started with a power point presentation by a few former JET programme members and helped to offer interested applicants an insight into the programme. Useful information like the basic requirements and application criteria were systematically explained during the presentation.
Apart from the application criteria and process, presenters gave audience members an insight into a normal day in the life of a JET participant aided by pictures and various diagrams. Majority of the presenters had been ALT (Assistant Language Teachers) in Japan and they shared the timetables of their school hours and the activities that they had taken part in.

Following the presentation, there was a short question and answer session where audience members were given the opportunity to ask the presenters questions pertaining to the JET programme. Many were curious about the transport in Japan and the services that were available to them should they be selected for the programme. Some were worried about the language barrier and what should happen if they didn’t speak Japanese. However, audience members were assured that not speaking Japanese was not an issue and the language could be picked up relatively easily if the participant had the interest.

To get a better understanding of the JET Programme, audience members were broken up into smaller groups with former JET participants. The small group discussion enabled audience members to get a personal account from former JET participants and share their concerns and questions regarding the JET programme.

The JET briefing session fuelled the interest of many interested participants and encouraged those who were indecisive to sign up for the programme. Many left the briefing with questions answered and the reassurance that the JET programme is a great experience.
